The great street photographers typically used small rangefinder cameras to capture spontaneous moments & people without being noticed. Whatever our tools may be, the street photographer is always an observer, looking for the decisive moment before it’s gone.
As Henri-Cartier Bresson, the father of modern street photography says…
“…Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again.” HCB

The Mobile Photography Awards & Sixteen Mile Arts present Shadow Stories Vol. 2: a juried Exhibit for Black & White Mobile Photography.
In the digital era, photographers are no longer limited by technology, darkroom costs or film choice and yet the allure of Black & White is as strong as ever. It’s been said that when we photograph people in color we capture their clothes, but when we shoot them in Black & White we capture their soul. When we eliminate color we are left with light, shadow and contrast: the very heart of photography.
Use any and all apps on your phone and/or tablet device to create monochrome images.
In the words of American photographer Robert Frank:
“…Black and white are the true colors of photography. To me, they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.” Robert Frank
